CURRENT PROJECTS
Serve-Ag’s NRM Group is currently delivering three important projects to assist farmers in twelve regions of the State take practical actions to improve their long term profitability and sustainability.
Funding for these projects is provided by the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program and Natural Heritage Trust, NRM North, local landcare groups and the individual farmers involved.

MONITORING AND IMPLEMENTING FARMER-BASED DECISIONS FOR PRODUCTIVE AGRICULTURE AND SUSTAINABLE LAND MANAGEMENT
This ground-breaking project is being delivered for the National Landcare Program to maintain economic and environmental sustainability on farms in north and northwest Tasmania. Now in its third and final year, the project engages six groups of farmers involved in intensive vegetable and extractive crop (poppies and pyrethrum) production, and extensive grazing.

ACHIEVING NRM TARGETS THROUGH ENGAGING REGIONAL PRODUCTIVITY GROUPS IN ON-GROUND ACTIVITIES
Following on from the success of the above project, the National Landcare Program has funded Serve-Ag to deliver a similar project in southern Tasmania through to June 2008.
This project’s goal is to maintain economic and environmental sustainability on farms in southern Tasmania by assisting three groups of farmers improve their productivity through addressing sustainable production issues. The groups span a diverse range of enterprises including cropping, wool and lamb production and tree fruits, and participants are engaged through information delivery, monitoring and implementing trials.

SUPPORTING BEST PRACTICE MANAGEMENT OF WATER QUALITY AND SALINITY IN NORTHERN TASMANIA
NRM North has contracted Serve-Ag to deliver a 12-month project assisting landholders implement changes to land management practices which have a positive effect on water quality and soil salinity in northern Tasmania.
This project runs through to December 2008, and is engaging landholder groups in local on-ground demonstrations, information sharing and regular monitoring, to increase their understanding of water quality, soil health and salinity issues, and help them take action where problems exist. A broad mix of enterprises are covered including vegetable production, dairying and beef and wool production.
