Serve-Ag's Sustainable Agricultural Services staff work closely with farming clients throughout Tasmania to create vibrant and sustainable farm businesses by focussing on people skills and capacity building in conjunction with improving the use and management of our natural resources.
We believe that only when key aspects such as crop production and soil health are managed in partnership with human skills and the ability to adapt to change, can farm businesses truly be economically and environmentally sustainable for the future.

Bec Clarkson's key area of expertise is monitoring and improving soil productivity and sustainability through the integrated management of biological, chemical and physical aspects. Bec also focusses on the development of practical Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques in vegetable crops and works with grower groups to assist them understand and adapt to climate change. Bec has a strong interest in developing leadership skills amongst young farmers, and holds a Degree in Ag Science (Hons).

Julie Finnigan has eighteen years experience in the field of natural resource management, specialising in soil and water salinity in Tasmania. Julie has managed and delivered many projects within the agricultural and private forest industries, such as salinity assessment and mapping, tree and shrub trials and establishment of best practice management activities for saline soils. Julie’s skill set also includes fresh water ecology research, effective communication and delivery of extension programs, and she holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons).

Sophie Folder has worked in the agriculture industry in extension and research roles for the past eleven years and has a broad knowledge of the grazing (beef, sheep & dairy) and horticulture industries. Sophie is a highly skilled facilitator and project manager with extensive knowledge of adult learning, group facilitation and change management techniques. Her key area of interest is in developing and delivering training to farmers to increase their capacity to improve their farm businesses. Sophie holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Ag) and Grad Cert of Rural Systems Management.

Peter Heading has over ten years experience in Natural Resource Management and amenity horticulture and has been involved in project management of Property Management Planning groups in collaboration with NRM groups. He has extensive knowledge in managing native vegetation on farms and conservation areas as well as facilitation of landcare/coastcare groups and other community groups. He has also had practical farm hand experience. Peter has a degree in Natural Environment and Wilderness Studies and has a keen interest in sustainable farm practices.

Stephen Welsh manages the Sustainable Ag Services Group. He has extensive knowledge and experience in the vegetable and amenity horticulture industries, coordinating R&D programs and managing weeds in farming systems and conservation areas. He has a keen interest and expertise in niche crop development and marketing; and intensive greenhouse crop production. Stephen has also worked with landcare and NRM groups for over ten years and holds a degree in Horticultural Management.
